Method of Operation
- Random flavours of product are delivered to the indexing servo-controlled conveyor of the infeed system at 120 ppm (one slug of product per flight). Flavours are identified using a DVT Vision System integrated with the PLC.
- Product is indexed and sorted by flavour into nine lanes of accumulating conveyors. Sorting is determined by the carton pack pattern and product type being run.
- Once the desired pack pattern has accumulated, three sets of 2 or 3 slugs are released onto a speed-up belt and into the buckets of the servo-controlled collation belt. Here a double stack of product can be created using an overhead vacuum pick and place unit.
- An air-actuated stripper transfers three product collations horizontally into three waiting cartons.
- Carton blanks are picked from the 8’ extended carton magazine by vacuum with a continuous motion two-head rotary feeder. The carton is placed in the carton conveyor lugs and the flaps held open with guide rails.
- After loading, both minor and major carton flaps are closed and sealed with hot melt glue from a Nordson hot melt system. Cartons pass through an open flap detect/reject station prior to being discharged from the machine.
