Method of Operation
- Single strips of contact lens are fed by hand into the single lane conveyor.
- En route to the carton loading area, leaflets are fed on top of the contact lens strips.
- Simultaneously carton blanks are picked from the extended horizontal magazine by the vacuum of a continuous motion 3-head rotary carton feeder and partially opened with the vacuum cups of the carton pre-break system. The carton is then placed in the carton conveyor flights and the flaps held open with guide rails.
- The contact lens strips and leaflet are automatically inserted into the carton horizontally. The minor end flaps are closed after loading and hot melt adhesive applied from a Nordson Hot Melt system. The major flaps are ploughed down and sealed and the carton is side transferred to the laser encoding area.
- The cartons are transferred from the continuous motion belt to an intermittent motion belt. The intermittent motion belt holds the carton in the proper location, enabling two Sator laser printers to accurately mark the outside of each carton with a serial number, expiry date and prescription code.
- After laser encoding, the cartons are transferred to a check wiegher that ensures that the correct amount of product has been loaded.
